Newspaper Article about Tamer            Tue 8 Aug 06

Tamers story from Palestine has made the news.

The following is an extract from a front-page article in the Dunedin newspaper 'Otago Daily Times' on 4 August 2006:

A year-long correspondence between a Dunedin language school and a Palestinian teenager has fallen chillingly silent but only after a final terrifying crescendo.

"Bombs were everywhere. Bullets were in the house. They shot fire in all homes", 16 year old Tamer El-Nakhal says in short staccato sentences in the last email he sent from his Gaza home, six days ago.

Since then, English Language Matters principal Sharron Verberne-Heazlewood has been unable to make contact.

"Really it was horrible here," Tamers last email reads. "I with my parents were in the kitchen floor for more than 50 hours without food or water! I was so scared".

The onslaught leaves his world scorched.

"I was shocked then with the scene when they withdrawal from our area with a 100 hectares or more have been damaged. It was so green with olive trees. Now it is like the desert!".

This is the email that prompted the newspaper story above.

It is the email Sharron received from Tamer after his area was attacked:
